Henry
Kissinger in his memoir writes that "Taiwan" was
barely mentioned during his conversation with Zhou Enlai in
1971. However, the documents, released today by the National
Security archive, revealed that Taiwan dominated one third
of their conversation. Moreover, in the conversation, Kissinger
said to Zhou Enlao that "We (U.S.) are not advocating
a "two China" solution or "one China, one Taiwan"
solution. He also said that U.S. would not support independence
for Taiwan.
The National
Security Archive site has the documents recently released
regarding Kissinger's first trip to the PRC in 1971. Here
