FAPA
EXTENDS CONGRATULATIONS TO PRESIDENT CHEN AND VICE-PRESIDENT LU
In
a letter dated March 26, 2004, FAPA's President Ming-chi Wu
congratulated Taiwan's President Chen Shui-bian and Vice-President
Annette Lu with their election victory.
Wu
writes: “On behalf of all FAPA members, I write to you today to
congratulate you with your election as President and Vice-President
of Taiwan.”
Wu
concludes: “We know that under your leadership Taiwan as a beacon
of freedom, human rights and democracy will continue to shine
brightly in this new millennium.”
Ming-chi
Wu adds, “Taiwanese Americans living in the United States went
through a similar elections dispute between the Gore and Bush camps
four years ago. They know that despite the narrowness of an election
result, the defeated should respect the democratic system and the
legal mechanism, and honorably move on. That is the true spirit of a
democracy. The Taiwanese opposition should learn from this."
