  • The results of the elections -- Incumbent President Chen Shui-bian and Vice President Annette Lu won the re-election! 

        The Central Election Commission in Taiwan certified Chen Shui-bian and Annette Lu the    winners of the March 20 presidential elections. The White House issued a congratulatory statement right after the Commission certified the election results.

        FAPA also sent a congratulatory letter to President Chen for his successful re-election.

  • A handful of Members of Congress have issued individual letters to President Chen right after the March 20th elections.

  • Taiwanese president shot while campaigning on the even of the election.

    On March 19th, President Chen Shui-bian and Vice President  Annette Lu were shot while campaigning in Tainan, southern Taiwan. Both were rushed to the hospital and appeared to be not in the critical condition. The elections went on as planned on Saturday, March 20. Chen was the first Taiwanese president to be shot.  

    Congressional Taiwan Caucus co-chairs wrote to President Chen and Vice President Lu right after the incident.
