Statement
by Congressman John Duncan, Jr. (R-TN)
May
12, 2000
I am
writing to congratulate members of the East Tennessee Chapter
of the Taiwanese Association of America, during Taiwanese
American Heritage Week 2000.
Members
of the Taiwanese community have played an invaluable role
in every facet of American life. For example, Taiwanese
Americans have distinguished themselves as successful and
notable artists, Nobel Laureate scientists, researchers,
human rights activists and business leaders.
This
week is especially important because the United States and
Taiwan celebrate a long-standing friendship. It is important
that our two Nations continue to enjoy the relations we
currently have.
I regret
that I will be unable to attend your celebration in person
this weekend. However, I want you to know that I appreciate
all that the Taiwanese American community has done for East
Tennessee, and, indeed, the rest of our Nation.
Again,
congratulations and best wishes on your contributions to
our Country. If I can ever be of assistance to you or your
organization, please do not hesitate to let me know.
With
kindest regards, I am
Sincerely,
John
J. Duncan, Jr.
Member
of Congress
