TAHW statement by Rep. Patsy Mink (D-HI)
May 13 - May 20, 2001
I am delighted to have this opportunity to extend my
warmest aloha to all the members of the Taiwanese American
community as you come together to celebrate Taiwanese
American Heritage Week.
Our nations
,ore than 500,000 Taiwanese Americans have made considerable
contributions to out society - in arts, the professions,
science, business, and in a wide variety of other endeavors.
Americas
vitality and creativity has resulted from our diversity. A
nation of immigrants, the United States has been enriched
culturally and economically by each immigrant group.
Tolerance and mutual understanding will come when all
Americans recognize the contributions and achievements of
all ethnic groups.
I also want to take this opportunity to recognize the
continued development of Taiwans
democracy. The courage, resilience, and economic and social
accomplishments of the Taiwanese people have earned the
worlds
respect and admiration.
Best wishes for a wonderful celebration of Taiwanese
American Heritage Week.
