 The United States is grateful to Taiwanese Americans for their outstanding contributions to the diversity and prosperity of American society.  Today you are both honoring the lives of Taiwanese Americans and providing an opportunity for Bay Area residents to learn about and enjoy Taiwanese culture.

I regret that the Congressional schedule prevents me from joining you today to celebrate your heritage and the spirit of community that binds us together as one nation.
