CONGRESSIONAL
TAIWAN CAUCUS CHAIRS EXPRESS HEARTFELT CONCERN TO PRESIDENT CHEN IN
LIGHT OF ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT
Within
a couple of hours after the assassination attempt on Taiwan's
President Chen and Vice President Lu, the chairs of the
Congressional Taiwan Caucus sent a letter to the President and the
vice President expressing their "deepest condolences and
heartfelt concern following the tragic attempt on your lives."
They
conclude: "Please know that our thoughts and prayers and those
of the American people are with you and your families during this
difficult time."

President Ming-chi Wu says, "As the Taiwan Caucus co-chairs
mentioned in the letter, we also hope that those individuals who are
responsible for the attacks will be brought to justice. And we hope
that the referendum and the presidential elections on March 20
proceed smoothly and peacefully."

眾議院台灣連線共同主席，就槍擊事件向陳總統與呂副總統表達關切之意
在得知陳水扁總統與呂秀蓮副總統19日在南台灣拜票不幸遭受槍擊後，眾議院台灣連線四位共同主席們隨即親筆致函給陳總統與呂副總統，向他們表達最深切的慰問之意。他們並對於這個試圖取走兩位正副元首性命的舉動，由衷地表示關心。
四位議員們最後在信中表示：「我們希望您能知道，我們以及美國人民的關切與禱告，將與您以及您的家人們陪您一起渡過這個難關。」
台灣人公共事務會會長吳明基表示：「誠如四位議員在信中提及的，我們希望台灣政府能夠早日找到兇手，並將兇手繩之以法。而我們也衷心期待20日舉行的公民投票以及總統選舉能夠和平舉行，並圓滿落幕。」
