To the
editor:
Taiwan's President Chen Shui-bian was speaking truth to power
when he recently stated that Taiwan is an independent, autonomous
nation and that the people of Taiwan have the right to determine
Taiwan's future.
The power he and Taiwan face off against is that of the People's
Republic of China whose self-appointed leaders continue to
threaten to use force against democratic Taiwan and constantly
try to bribe nations from recognizing the island nation.
From his inauguration two years ago, Chen has offered one
olive branch after another to the PRC by stating his willingness
to sit and discuss all outstanding issues between the two
nations. Instead of an honest response, the
crusty PRC leaders demand that Taiwan accept their terms first
and then come to the table.
Right. If George Washington had accepted such terms, the 13
colonies would still be British.
Sincerely,
Back
to Chen on Referendum
