We know you are crazy about Taiwan, about bubble tea, 24-7 KTV, those 24-7 convenient stores such as 7-11 or Family Mart that seem to be everywhere you turn, the crowded night market; heck, I bet you even miss the stinky tofu!

We also know that food is NOT the only reason you love Taiwan. We know that you are supportive and proud of Taiwan’s young democracy (it is barely a decade ago that Taiwan had its first democratic and free presidential elections), Taiwan’s vibrant society and her friendly and warm people.

In the meantime, we bet that you share our concerns about the Communist Chinese government’s continuing military threat against Taiwan and its relentless efforts in suppressing Taiwan’s international participation.

Now there is a perfect opportunity to translate your passions or/and support for Taiwan into action! Join us for a weekend when you will meet similar-minded people, learn more about U.S.-Taiwan-China relations, master the ABCs of becoming an advocate for Taiwan, and apply what you learn the following day right away on Capitol Hill when meeting your elected officials!

With the “the more the merrier” spirit, we encourage you to bring your school friends, fellow TASA members, co-workers or even family members to share this experience.

For example, “Bring your parents” or “Bring your children” is STRONGLY encouraged! If you are Taiwanese Americans, “Taiwan” is the most solid bond you have with your parents or/and family members, imagine how fun it will be to lobby your elected officials as a family together for Taiwan. That shall leave a lasting impression on the Capitol Hill offices you meet! (If you are not Taiwanese American, you are, without a doubt, encouraged to bring your family members as well!) You can even plan some sight-seeing activities in the nation’s capital after the conference if you are coming with your friends and families!

What is FAPA?

The Formosan Association for Public Affairs (FAPA) is a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization that seeks to build worldwide support for Taiwan independence. Its 52 chapters also seek to advance the interests of Taiwanese people and communities around the world. Currently, the President of FAPA is Dr. Bob Yang.

Established in 1982 in Los Angeles, California, FAPA subsequently moved its headquarters to Washington. The organization provides U.S. policy makers, the media, scholars and the general public with information on issues related to Taiwan.

Why should You Care?

FAPA sees support for democratization as beneficial to American interests, since a more open society on Taiwan will help foster safety, security and peace in the Pacific Basin.

Taiwan's presidential election in March 2000 was the culmination of Taiwan's path to democratization. Although Taiwan has become a full democracy, this does not guarantee the right of its 23 million people to enter into international organizations. As a proponent of democracy in Taiwan, FAPA believes that all residents of Taiwan must have equal rights and share equal responsibilities with the rest of the world. Taiwan is a democratic and prosperous de facto independent country. FAPA strongly believes and advocates that the future of Taiwan must be decided by the 23 million people in Taiwan and without any outside pressure and threats. The right of self-determination is a basic universal right. Nobody but the people of Taiwan has the right to determine the future of Taiwan!

Missile Threat

China has over 1,400 ballistic missiles aimed at Taiwan. Most are capable of carrying nuclear weapons. Some of these missiles have been positioned so they can also threaten Japan and South Korea and are a big threat to peace and stability in Asia.
